Retaining rings: DIN 471 and DIN 472
A retaining ring holds a part on a shaft or in a bore and takes up axial load. External rings (DIN 471) fit into a groove on the shaft, internal rings (DIN 472) into a groove inside the bore; they are not interchangeable even with the same nominal diameter.
A ring is chosen not only by diameter but also by the geometry of the groove, whose dimensions must follow the standard. Special pliers matching the ring type are used for fitting and removal. When ordering, specify the type, standard, nominal size and material. The TDMI catalog includes A2 stainless steel rings to DIN 471 and DIN 472; you can request a price from the product card.
