Washers: types and purpose
A washer spreads the tightening force under a nut or bolt head and protects the surface of the part. Flat washers (DIN 125) and large washers (DIN 9021) increase the bearing area, while spring washers (DIN 127) and toothed washers (DIN 6797, DIN 6798) help reduce the risk of loosening.
